AFC Bournemouth Ladies 3-2 Frome Town LFC

The Cherries inaugural match in the SW Combination League saw plenty of goals that all came in the first half.
It was Bournemouth who began brightly with Lou Banton and Lindsey Roe linking well down the right hand side but it was Frome who took the lead from a free kick in the 5th minute following a foul by midfielder, Nicky Rowswell. Sarah Moxey drove the ball high from 25 yards and its flight appeared to deceive young keeper, Kerry Isom to give the visitors a slender lead.
Bournemouth responded well and upped their tempo during a spell of twenty minutes that saw Lindsey Roe get her first hat-trick of the season, the pick of which was her first, a fine controlled volley from inside the area. It was an impressive display of finishing and although the Cherries should have scored a further two goals through some great wing play by Merry and Banton they never quite found that finishing touch.
At 3-1 up the Cherries looked comfortable but that all changed just before half time when Frome had a corner on the right and Kirsty Whitton took advantage of a defensive mix up with her low strike from 8 yards out to bring them back into the game.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, Bournemouth never looked troubled by Frome’s long-ball tactics and against the solid, aerial defending of Bournemouth’s Georgie Hoban, Town could find no way through the red’s defence.
In fact it was the Cherries who should have extended the lead on several occasions throughout the 2nd half but again, it was poor finishing that let them down.
